On Facebook the other day I was asked how a stick of butter fits into the Butter Keeper! I use mine so often that I forgot that others may not know how they work.
- Allow a full stick of butter to come to room temperature
- Using a spoon scrape the butter into the LID of the Crock (yes, the lid…feels weird but that is where the butter goes)
- Using the back of the spoon, pack it down as I have in the picture
- Fill the bottom of the crock about a 1/3rd of the way up with water
- Put the lid (with the butter) back into the bottom
That’s it. Super easy. I tend to wipe off the rim because I usually get butter there. Sometimes pieces of butter will indeed fall into the water. I use it!!! It’s still good.
You can put the lid out on the table when serving butter with a meal
For me, we don’t use butter that often so when I have used up the butter I throw the whole thing in the dishwasher and start all over. If you use your butter alot my French Butter Keepers have plenty of room for more butter so adding another stick is not a problem.
I also suggest changing out the water every 3-5 days just to keep it fresh.
And YES, you can leave your butter out on the counter now!
